Dishwasher is not cleaning my dishes. I rinse B4 putting in Need advice.?

I have checked the spin arm holes, both top & bottom& they are not clogged. I don't know what to do. I have read on here some people say to check the trap.. what is the trap & what does it look like & where is it located. My machine is a Kennmore Ultra wash. I purchased it used at an auction so- maybe there was a problem to start with but now I have it and I have to deal with it. I also took off the bottom sprayer arm & looked at the screen below it & it is not clogged but I am unable to remove this screen to look underneath it- I don't want to do anything to make the situation worse by trying to remove something & break it. Calling a repair man is not an option . Any tips for this Hackettstown lady. Thanks for your answer

1. If you are sure that the water is flowing , then maybe the heat element is no good..if you open the door after you hear the machine running for a couple of minutes, stop it and open the door..water should be dripping from your upper dishes and you should feel the heat..good luck to you..Chaz


2. The spin arm may, in fact, not be spinning. To check this, note the position of the arms before you close the doors. To check yourself, sketch it on a piece of paper. Next, close the door and slowly move the timer through its entire cycle by hand until you reach the end. Open the door and re-check the position of the spin arms. If they have not moved (my prediction for your problem, but I could be wrong, of course!)) that is your problem, and you will need a repairperson, unless

   you or someone you know is a good "do-it-yourselfer."



3. With dishwashers , the problem in most cases where it won`t clean properly is a partially plugged water filter in the water inlet valve .

   If it`s a portable dishwasher , turn it on it`s side and you`ll see a small valve with 2 wires going to it in the front left hand corner . There`s a hose attached to it with a connection the same as your automatic washer where it connects to the taps.

   Unscrew the hose from the valve . Just inside the opening of the valve there`s a small metal screen . Flip it out with a sharp knife and check it . If it`s plugged , throw it out and get a combination screen/washer that goes in the hose connection . You have to remove the old washer first .

   Screw the hose back on and that`s it . If your dishwasher is a built-in , the valve is the same but the screen and water line are different , plus the valve has to be removed and dissassembled , making it much more difficult .



4. A dishwasher's water inlet valve is its most common part to fail. When your dishes are not being fully cleaned, quite often a faulty water inlet valve is to blame. Test your dishwasher's water inlet valve, and if it is no longer functioning as it should, you will have to replace it.


5. Pump motor is weak. It'll never clean well. Buy a new one.


6. Sounds like the previous owner got rid of it for a reason. That is why they sell them at auctions. It is yours now.


7. Buy a new one.
