Is an individual legally allowed to sell new DVDs on an on-line auction site even if he's not a distributor?

I am considering to sell some of my dvds collections that might have a premium. They are new and unopened. But I am not sure if it is not illegal in terms of the copyrights. Can anyone advise?

1. People do it by the thousands on EBay everyday so I would assume it's legal.

   if you were to copy them or reproduce them or publicly play them that would be an offence.
