Whats the value of a 1905 winchester 1886 33 caliber, sport stock, serial 137483?

My local sport shop said of all the guns he has seen he has never seen one in a 33 caliber and graded as 95%. What is the best place to auction such a gun??

  1. The .33 Winchester was actually a fairly popular cartridge in its day. Finding 1886 Winchesters in this caliber is not all that hard, although much harder than 45-70, and some other chamberings that were made in larger numbers. A lot of the .33 Winchesters made in that time period were of the "Extra Light Weight" variety. This usually consists of a round barrel of around 22-24", shotgun butt plate, half-magazine, and take down receiver. 1886 Winchesters are highly collectible. And any factory deviation from a standard rifle will bring a premium. Also any alteration from original will bring big losses in value. Your rifle, depending on configuration, condition, and originality could fetch anywhere from $800-$5000+. I know it is a vague answer but that is the nature of collectible Winchesters. Ninety-five percent condition of original finish and the same in a refinish could be a difference of thousands of dollars. I would recommend having a reputable person with knowledge in collectible Winchesters to look at it. Then do a lot of research on your own to verify the price estimation. Anyone with an interest in owning your rifle (and there will be many) is liable to give you an inaccurate appraisal.

  3. I had an old friend that had one. Believe it or not, his was in 98% condition. I knew this man about 20 years ago, and he was in his early 80s back then. He later moved away and I suspect he is now dead. Sorta wonder what happened to all of his nice firearms. Anyway, I would guess that your rifle is worth AT LEAST $2,500. If you get in front of the right collector, then you will do better. HOWEVER. Note that the mindset these days seems to be on people buying every sort of military-style cloned rifle out there. So, the interest in collectable Winchesters has dimmed a bit. Everyone wants an AR-15 clone with Picatinny rails so they can hang "stuff" off it it.
