- If maintenance is your biggest worry, government auctions are not where you want to buy cars.
- there are other auctions where only gov cars are sold , wwwpublicsurplus.com www.govdeals.com and these cars are on a maintenance program, good luck
- In order to buy at these or any other kind of auction, you must be able to judge the cars' condition without being able to drive them. If you don't have the skills yourself, take someone with you. Also take a pricing guide with you, such as those from Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com) so that you don't overbid and pay too much. Here's an article with more details: http://www.leaseguide.com/Articles/carauctions.htm .
- Universally, you get what you pay for! I had an in-law that bought from a Govt, auction - the car didn't last six months before it had to be junked. I bought my current car on Ebay for five thousand less than my dealers were selling them here - A/C couldn't be fixed, car had a coolant leak that no one could find - it wiped away the clear coat on my fender - I'm averaging only about 400-500 miles between sudden electrical problems at befoul my systems - and the car is now out of production - imagine what the next repair will cost on my Eldorado! Find a "distressed" seller, someone who needs the money and can't afford to hold out, especially right now in this recession!
