1. because u can usually get them real cheap and you can check them out before there on the auction block then they can fix em up if they need it and sell for profit or just drive em
2. to resale, but some people actually think they are getting a better deal some cars have major problem and if the dealer cant sell the car on the lot they sell at car autions
