why do major car lots buy cars at auctions?

I was thinking of buying a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica touring I just got the car fax on it and it shows it was with a rental company and Chris Myers Nissan purchased the vehicle at auction. This vehicle has 25k miles should I be concerned and stay away from this vehicle

  1. Stay away from rental cars. That's the worste thing you could do is buy one. Trust me.
  2. Not really. Many cars are fleet cars or individual lease cars. They buy them and detail them. Then sell them to you. They are not going to buy garbage.
  3. most all vehicles go to auction... this is normal... Having found it as a rental vehicle would steer me away from it as many different drivers have driven the car and many people who rent vehicles deliberatly abuse them because they can...it isn't theirs... so 25k miles on the odometer might acutally be equivalent to 50+k due to rough treatment...although a mini van is not likely to be used like that I would still avoid it....just my persssonal take on buying a rental car....On the other side of the coin, it should have had proper maintanance and oil changed at proper intervals...
  4. It kinda has alot of miles for that year of vehicle, that may be why they decided to send it to the auction. Most times dealerships will send cars to the auction or trade with other lots if they have something they can't get rid of or another lot wants, supply and demand is all. If you feel the car looks good and you can get an extended warranty, if it still does not have the factory warranty, than I would feel comfortable buying the vehicle.
  5. They buy these at auctions b/c they can generally get large discounts for these autos. It sounds like a great deal to me, they have been making these things for 4 years now, and should be pretty solid by now, I would go for it
