Can I buy salvage cars from insurance auctions and then resell them as-is using a seller permit in California?
I want to know if is legal to use my sellers permit to buy totaled cars or salvaged cars at auction to the resell them (as is) in ebay. would i need a dealer license if I selling more than 5 a year?

- once a car is salvaged title, it has to be repaired and inspected by the state before another title can be issued. there are certain repairs the are illegal for resale, welded frame repair etc..
- you would need the dealers liscense to do taht and yes it is legal to buy and resell as is but why, you would double to triple your money selling the good parts off of the car and scraping the rest of it making money on the whole car. i did this on a turbo 2 rx7 wreck bought it for 150 parted it out and made 1000 then took it to the scrapper and made anothe 200$
- Cant tell you about the 5 cars per year or not but you do understand that every car that you sell in the state of California will have to be smog tested and paid for by you the seller, not the buyer and as stated above salvage cars as well as regular cars need to pass very strict laws. CALIFORNIA Ph: 916-657-8871 All dealers must be licensed with the State. A dealer number and corresponding dealer plates are issued. Dealer License Fee: $150.00 application $100.00 renewal New auto, commercial and motorcycle dealers must also pay the New Motor Vehicle Board a $225.00 fee.
- I work for the world's largest reseller of insurance claim, salvage, and theft recovery vehicles (see www.copart.com ). In order to buy this type of car, you have to be registered with the state you are buying in. You will need a business license, tax ID, dealer license and a Bid Card. A bid card is a photo ID that the DMV issues people who have permission to buy from a salvage pool. Buying this type of vehicle is not something you want to do unless you are a dismantler or rebuilder. reselling to the public opens up HUGE liability issues that the average person - or dealer for that matter - would be wise to avoid.
- i do same thing in texas but i repair the salvaged car.. you do need the dba, salvage dealers license and get registered with an auction. also tax permit to skip on taxes. in your state its illegal to transfer a salvage certificate to a non salvage dealer... what you do is repair the salvage car, get it inspected and then the new buyer applies for the regular rebult title.. so by using ebay you can sell to an individual out of california which is fine... they just got to be out of your state... pretty sure copart requires a salvage dealers license to buy in their auctions...nto sure what a sellers permit is
